The young people we met in the ‘What about us?’ project did great work. We say:

  • Schools and college should help young people to get their ideas across
  • Schools and colleges should learn to listen to young people. Young people have ideas that are new, different and important
  • Schools and colleges should make sure young people feel safe all the time
  • Schools and colleges should make safe places for young people to use when they need them
  • Schools and colleges should give young people a big part in planning for change
  • Schools and colleges should help young people to help each other
  • Everyone can help to make their schools and colleges better – all young people should be able to join in with the school or college council
  • Everyone should have the information they need in a way that is easy to understand
  • Teachers and tutors in schools and colleges should be able to choose what to teach – and they should ask young people what they think they need to learn
  • Teachers and tutors in schools and colleges should be able to choose how to teach – and they should ask young people how they think things should work in lessons
  • Managers in schools and colleges should listen to young people – and to teachers and tutors
  • Read more about what we think should happen next in ‘What we found out’

We say thank you to the schools and colleges who worked with our project – you did a great job!

Now other schools and colleges should try the same way of working.
